Fundamentals for House Rules and a Cyber Secure Home

Last week I came across a feature about Reddit’s co-founder, Steve Huffman, returning to the social media news site to clean up the content. The interim CEO was quoted as saying that the “trolls were winning”, and much of the content was becoming vulgar and hostile and interaction was degrading – making the environment less civil.

Huffman came up with some guidelines for their forum “house rules” which make sense for home as well. In this Sacramento Cyber Safety Examiner feature, the standards for Reddit that make sense for home are featured. Read more…

Balancing the rights of the individual and the interest greater good is always a challenge when it comes to free speech. The most important thing we can instill in our children in this regard is to embrace the rule of thumb: “first seek to do no harm.” In the social network, good will matters for self and others.
